Lanes and Arcades

Ventured into Melbourne City yesterday for a bit of pleasure and a bit of business.
First stop, "Nick Cave" the exhibition, at the Arts Centre. Although I am a huge Nick Cave fan ( first seeing the Boys Next Door as a teen!) it is such a well set out and insightful exhibition, that non fans would still enjoy it.Then, as always, we tend to weave our way through all the brilliant lane ways and arcades and end up in China town.
The Campbell Arcade runs under Flinders St. and is the home to the lovely boutique "The Cat's Meow".
Dropped off some new Betty Jo brooches, and then headed up to Cathedral Arcade. Popped into Genki and Retro Star vintage clothing, and saw Fiona Sweetman taking a group on a Hidden Secrets Tour-"Lanes and Arcades" which is a really cool shopping experience.
And, Fiona was sporting her Suzie Sparrow lino brooch! I think a lot of good business is generated by innovative ideas like this.
Next, coffee in Degraves St. and to Block Arcade where Douglas and Hope have a gorgeous little shop. Must remember to bring new stock in next visit.
Then north to Royal Arcade where we always visit the Brotherhood op-shop and one of my newest stockists,"Anonymous Posh".This cute little shop is filled with a sweet selection of vintage clothing, jewellery and curios. Then after that we burst out into the hustle and bustle of Burke St. and headed up to China town for lunch.
No wonder I love Melbourne so much!

  1. The lanes and alley ways make going into Melbourne a real adventure. Love your descriptions of the shops and the routes. Your Suzie Sparrow brooch is just gorgeous.

  2. I was roaming the very same streets last week. Might have walked passed you. Infact I spent quite sometime admiring the mosaic flooring at the Block arcade(right outside Douglas and Hope) whilst waiting for my son to go to the loo. The loos are pretty good by the way. take the lift to the 4th floor...for you next trip!

  3. Yay! I will add that to my very small list of public loos in Melbourne.
