A few weeks ago I got a call from my pal Lois. She was heading down to the old newsagent in Northcote to salvage some beautiful old linoleum. The new owners were totally gutting the building and chucking out the layers of old flooring. Here are some of the cool patterned pieces we kept.
This was Dot's Charles Street newsagency. She worked here all her life- as did her parents before her. Sadly Dot died last year, but thankfully the shop front will be retained as a residence by the new owners and not pulled down by developers.
This budgie was the first thing I made with Dot's lino...so it's name is Dotty!
As budgies like to be in a birdy relationship, I made a second one called Charley!
