For many years I have been an avid beach comber. Driftwood, sea-washed glass, ship wreak china. Most of this beachy stuff ended up in some kind of decorative item of the mosaic persuasion.
Much of this weekend just gone was spent walking along the gorgeous ocean beaches of the Mornington Peninsular, and as usual my eyes were drawn to the sand. And I couldn't believe the amount of plastic stuff that was washed up amongst the seaweed. It didn't belong, so it came home with me in a rubbish bag. But then the pretty colours were itchin for a quick sorting.....Can you spy the princess, the angels wing, the barbie handbag and the ninja in amongst the flotsam and jetsam?
your monochromatic pics look great- visually poetic like rosalie gascoigne. so glad you have fashioned a clever use for all this discarded plastic.
ReplyDeleteIt's all so beautiful when you sort them together, but you're right - they don't belong on a beach!
ReplyDeleteAre you going to make them into mosaics?
Ooh, they remind me of the images in the "eye spy" books that my girls have.
ReplyDeleteIt's really sad that so much rubbish like this is floating around but good for you for collecting it. I'm sure we will see it recreated into something fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI love them Liz, I never realised that YOU are Betty Jo designs. They are fabulous. I am keen on beahc combing too, and have a fair bit of sea glass ( mermaids' tears) and interesting hag stones. Beach combing is one one my favourite past times..and it is all free!!!
ReplyDeleteOh wow - love the blue collection! These would look great in a box frame!
ReplyDeleteYah I found them!!!
ReplyDeletethese collections are amazing...
they would make great photographs on the wall...
love the red and blue ones...of course they are my fav colours...but they are all pretty cool...
Liz - they are great. I have the same compulsion - can't walk along a beach without looking down. keep inspiring us
ReplyDeleteTHe barbie handbag is very cute! Those party poppers have to be the most wasteful things ever invented. I'll never look at the beach the same way again.
ReplyDeleteGood morning!! a few weeks ago I went for a walk along a beach in Nubeena, its near Port Arthur, I found nothing! It was so clean. didn't know if I should be disapointed or happy.
ReplyDeleteYour collection reminds me of Collin Lancley's work.
My eyes are drawn the the green lego!
WOW what a collection! They look great colour coded. Shame we have so much waste on our beaches but when someone with a wonderful eye like yourself can put it to good use it definitely helps x
ReplyDeleteAmazing! I do love a colour coded bunch.
ReplyDeletewell done indeed..
a friend of mine framed his collection in a fat frame and it looks fantastic!!! Great blog btw.
