Humming Along.

I looked out into my garden the other day and there was a bird sipping nectar and hovering like a hummingbird. I know it wasn't an actual hummingbird, but it was amazing to watch.

I remembered I had a wonderful book about hummingbirds and today I made a wee hummingbird brooch. With a ruby throat.Hummingbird
I love catching glimpses of birds. It gives me hope for the future of our environment.
What would the world do with out birds?
Well in my case, get more sleep. Pesky myna birds have moved into our eaves again and start their screeching at dawn....bad screechy invasive pests-you don't belong here.
But, I now have an idea for my next "Stuff" collection. There may be tweeting , but you'll be nowhere near Twitter...........
And, just asking, does tweeting do it for you? I'm struggling to embrace what seems to be mainly an advertising tool. I know it's supposed to be a good marketing device, but Twitter = Boring .
NO pictures unless you click away and then Bam, you've lost my attention!

  1. I love, love. love birds, and am bored senseless by twitter. I joined up and twittered about 4 or 5 times before I decided I just didn't get it. Haven't gone near it since.

  2. I love hummingbirds! And sunbirds! Growing up in NQ we had them under our back stairs all the time, setting up little hanging nests in the rosella bush!

As for twitter, I struggle personally to find the attraction in it. I signed up over Christmas for exactly 5 mins, got bored, and deleted my account! I know others love it, but personally I prefer to read (and write) longer prose on a blog!

  4. Oh, i've never tweeted & done twitter, who has the time?? Blogs, my website & emails are enough for business if you ask me!!
Hummingbirds, gorgeous, like Kristen Doran's screen prints. Damn Myna birds, they are introduced too, der, who brought them to Australia?? Short sighted idiots who had cane toads & rabbits on board no doubt. Love Posie

  6. Your hummingbird is absolutely gorgeous, Liz. (I love Singer's illustrations ... I was given his "Book of birds" when I was a kid and always loved the chapter on the "smallest birds".)

  7. That's a ridiculously exotic pest. Myna birds? I'm not sure I've ever seen one in person. Annoying, yes, but so cool!

We used to have problems with woodpeckers banging away at our metal gutters early in the morning. That was so irritating. Ugh.

And for twitter, it took me a really long time to wrap my head around it, but now that I have, I find it incredibly useful. And fun.

  8. Thanks for the positive hummingbird feedback.
I guess when it comes to Twitter, just words don't cut it for me.
That's why Tumbler has appeal.Because you can see beautiful images, and leave feedback.

  9. I love these pictures Liz. I wonder what sort of bird it was, your "humming bird"?
Twitter- I have thought about it, and started an account, and even left a tweet the other day... then abandoned it again. I have my hands full with all the other things. It works for some people though...
